From time to time, there has been much debate concerning which one will come out as the winner of the battle between the classic treadmills versus the newcomer elliptical machines. These debates seem like will never end since there are too many parameters used. People have different perspectives, and of course, each one tends to stick with their opinions. Let me ask you, if you thought that treadmill is the best, and then what is exactly the parameter so you can say so? Vice versa, how can you choose the elliptical as the winner while you can reap the same health benefits through the treadmill workouts?
Treadmill is a great exercise machine created ever. It helps you to reap many health benefits through its cardiovascular exercises. Whether you go walk, jog or run on a treadmill, it allows you to improve your cardiovascular fitness so you will be able to enjoy the benefits of better health. There are many reasons people give why they decided to choose the treadmill over other fitness machines. Treadmill provides very simple workouts for all people, regardless of age and fitness level. Around the globe, walking and running have become the two most popular exercises because of their simplicity. Everyone can walk and run, anytime and anywhere. For those who don’t have the time to do their walking or running outside, treadmills were created. With the presence of the treadmills, there is no excuse to skip exercise because of bad weathers outside except you are too lazy doing your part, which I hope not.
The same goes to an elliptical machine. It can be used in your living room and targeting your cardiovascular as well. Like walking and running, exercising with an elliptical machine is also beneficial to strengthen your heart, improves your resistance level and helps you burn off calories. In short, both machines are targeting these health benefits for you.
Of these facts, I personally wouldn’t give my thumbs up for one side and leave another one as a crap. I’m not going to bother myself with that. Nevertheless, since we all have our own perspective just like I’ve mentioned above, I’m going to show you the two main differences between a treadmill and an elliptical workout so at least you can base your decision on these facts. Yet, the final result is yours.
The first issue that many people are talking about is the impact involved with both exercises. Exercising with an elliptical is essentially the equivalent of walking on air because the user is not pounding his legs against a hard surface. Therefore, there would be no impact at all. The different goes to a treadmill workout. Walking or running on a treadmill is considered a high impact workout due to the pressure put on joints as you walk or run on its tread belt. However, most treadmills these days are equipped with the smoother surfaces that absorb impact and reduce much pressure on the user’s joints and knees.
Another subject that a much debated is the amount of calories burned. In order to perform an elliptical workout, you have to use your own strength by both your arms and legs. This way may seem like the elliptical workout offer you burn more calories. However, running on a treadmill could also help you shed as much calories as the elliptical performance. Moreover, most people simply prefer to do a truly run than a simulated running with an elliptical. In addition, a treadmill would also provide you many options like speed, incline and so on.
Well, comparing a treadmill to an elliptical would just give you a little confusion. Instead of bothering yourself with those arguments, why don’t you use both machines for a maximized result? The choice is in your hand.
